| Casa Colonica
Gallipoli, on the Ionic sea, is found on the western shore of the Salentine peninsula, in the Gulf of Taranto.
A characteristic of the city is its clear division in two parts:
the "old city " and the "new area ". The storic center is filled with antique contructions and is located on a calcium island connected to the mainland with a walled bridge.
Around the year 1500 the great perimiter walls were built, to withstand enemy attack, adjusted in height, towards the end of the 1800’s, to reach the current panoramic road, which encircles the whole island, allowing views of the fantastic scenery.
The apartments are in a typical colonial type house of 18th century, once inhabited by the agricultural peasants who worked on the neighbouring land.
In those times, the structure was far away from Gallipoli and therefore the families had to become self-sufficent who lived there.
On the ground floor there is a wine-press, consumed by time and salinity of marine atmosphere, which served for wine production, an oven to make bread, a small stable and a store-room.
Today, given its closeness to the sea (only 300 mt away) easily reached on foot, it is surrounded by sports centers and tourist attractions and is well served by these amenities around, but on the inside, with its typical dry stone wall enclosure, maintains all its fascination.
The building is near to Gallipoli, close to the localation Riva Bella, 300 mt from the sea and 1300mt from the city center.
The structure has been complety renovated in 2001, it si composed of double-roomed flats with their own car park.
